Publlication Ethics

Publication Ethics

Background

Authors are encouraged to refer to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) International Standards for Editors and Authors (http://publicationethics.org/) for any ethical guidelines not explicitly covered in this document.

Submission Declaration and Verification

By submitting an article, authors confirm that the work has not been previously published, except as an abstract, lecture, or academic thesis. They also affirm that the manuscript is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Additionally, all authors and relevant authorities where the research was conducted must approve the submission, either explicitly or implicitly.

Once accepted, the article cannot be republished in its original form, in English or any other language, including digital formats, without the copyright holder’s written consent.

Contributors

Each author must have made a significant contribution to the research and preparation of the manuscript. Authors must specify their respective roles and confirm that all contributors have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript.

Publication and Authorship

Authorship should be granted only to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the study’s conception, design, execution, data collection, processing, or interpretation. Individuals who contributed to specific aspects of the study but do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all qualified co-authors are listed and that they have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript before submission.

Authors’ Responsibilities

Authors must adhere to Jurnal Medik Veteriner (JMV) peer review policies and ensure that submitted data is accurate, original, and free of plagiarism or fraudulent content. They must also provide additional information if requested. Any previously published data included in the manuscript must be appropriately cited or acknowledged, and permission must be obtained for reproduced content. Authors must ensure that animal studies comply with ethical and welfare guidelines and disclose any potential conflicts of interest. In cases where necessary, authors should be open to publishing corrections, clarifications, or retractions.

Reviewers’ Responsibilities

Reviewers play a crucial role in the decision-making process and in improving the quality of the manuscript through an objective review process within the given timeframe. They should alert the editor if they identify any published or submitted material similar to the manuscript under review. Reviewers must avoid conflicts of interest related to the study, its authors, or its sponsors, and they must maintain confidentiality regarding any information received during the review process.

Editors’ Responsibilities

Editors have full authority to accept or reject a manuscript and must make decisions free from conflicts of interest. They should evaluate submissions solely based on academic merit, without discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, religion, political beliefs, or national origin. Editors must also maintain confidentiality regarding reviewers' identities and ensure that commercial interests do not influence publication decisions.

Publishing Ethics

All parties involved in the publication process—authors, reviewers, and editors—must uphold the integrity of scholarly research. Ethical and intellectual standards should take precedence over commercial considerations.

Animal Ethics Statement

Jurnal Medik Veteriner (JMV) places great importance on animal welfare in research, including activities such as fish collection, predator-prey studies, and invasive surgical procedures. All studies involving animals must adhere to internationally recognized ethical standards and be approved by an accredited ethics committee. Since regulations on animal welfare may vary by region, authors must confirm that they have obtained appropriate permissions from relevant local or national authorities.

Authors must provide clear evidence of ethical approval in the first paragraph of the Materials and Methods section. The following are acceptable formats for this statement:

  1. "This study complied with the animal welfare regulations as approved by [Insert local or national permitting authority] under permit reference number [XXX]."
  2. "Ethical approval for the use of laboratory animals in this study was granted by [Committee Name] under Certificate Number XXX [2020/20/UA], Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia."
